Since 1991, ROOF HUGGER has grown to become the leader in metal-over-metal retrofit technologies with headquarters in the Tampa Florida area, fabrication facilities in four states and sales offices in Dallas Texas.
Today, ROOF HUGGER products have been and continue to be tested in accordance with the most rigid industry standards. This simple re-roofing method offers new code compliance, simple upgrades to standing seam roofs, energy savings and an easy way to use the new metal roof as a cash generating platform by adding solar thermal hot water and photovoltaic electric systems, allowing the building owner to
Many of our customers discovered the Roof Hugger way of retrofitting when they were faced with replacing a metal building’s old roof. Some figured they would remove the existing roof and install a new thru-fastened or standing seam roof. The problem for them was exposing the interior of the building to rain during construction and in many cases the building owner would have to relocate his workforce and/or contents until the new roof could be installed. Some contractors used other sub-framing methods only to find that they were structurally inadequate and a potential liability. Most contractors that have installed Roof Huggers, in lieu of removing the old metal roof, now offer Metal-over-Metal retrofit as part of their normal product and service offering. Please give us a try on your next roof replacement project. We are confident that you will be calling us on all your future projects. |
The “Roof Hugger” concept was born in 1989 when D.V. “Red” McConnohie needed to reroof one of his own investment properties. There was no single, structurally correct component that allowed a new
metal roof to be installed over an existing metal roof. There was just a hodge-podge of angles, channels or hat shaped members of which all were not installed in a code compliant fashion.
The ROOF HUGGER system had to be structurally correct (to provide structural support to the new roof assembly) and it had to be versatile enough to accommodate the multitude of existing metal roof profiles that existed and for those that had not been manufactured for decades. The framing had to be low-profile to maintain the aesthetic value of the building and the installation of all materials could not interrupt the building owner’s operations of his/her business. Red had an idea of how to accomplish this with the now famous “Roof Hugger Factory-Notched Zee Sub-purlin” In 1991 “Red” and his partner Dale Nelson formed Roof Hugger, Inc. believing that other owners and contractors surely faced with the same retrofit problems. A patent was soon awarded for this unique idea and marketing of the ROOF HUGGER RETROFIT FRAMING SYSTEM began in earnest. In 2011, we lost Red but the once small company has grown to become the largest and most recognized provider of metal over metal retrofit systems in the country. Under the continued direction of Dale Nelson, they continue to serve their customers and build on their industry leadership with new product innovations, new patents, ongoing product testing and partnerships with industry leaders in energy efficient retrofit systems. |
